Bailey caravan VIN number and year
Bailey's maker code is SGB, so a Bailey touring caravan's 17-character VIN starts with those three characters. The tenth character is the model year. Enter the VIN and this page reads the year, or look the character up in the table below.

In the Caravan and Motorhome Club's caravan identification guide, SGB is Bailey's code and no other make's.
The maker codes are the ones published in the Caravan and Motorhome Club's caravan identification guide. The year position is not taken from a guide: we checked the tenth character against SGB caravans whose year was stated separately. Some guides label the thirteenth character as the year. On a VIN that starts SGB that character is part of the serial number or a model code, and reading it gives a wrong year.
Bailey year codes
Count to the tenth character of a VIN that starts SGB and find it below. The 30 codes repeat every 30 years, so a code that has come round twice shows both model years.
A caravan built from September can carry the following year's code, so the model year can be one later than the year it was built.

Before 1992
A Bailey from 1987 to 1991 can carry an NCC mark in place of a VIN: two digits for the year, then BY, then a serial number. A mark that starts 89 BY is a 1989 Bailey. The check at the top of this page reads these too.
Before 1987 each maker numbered its caravans its own way. This page does not read those numbers.
What this does not tell you
The number gives the maker code and the model year, nothing else. It does not show whether a caravan has been reported stolen, has finance owing or has been written off. A CRiS check covers those, and we don't run it.
