Buccaneer caravan VIN number and year
A Buccaneer VIN can start one of two ways. Buccaneer caravans from the Explorer Group years carry Elddis's maker code, SGE, and on those the tenth character is the model year. Buccaneer's own maker code is SG2. We have not confirmed which character holds the year on a VIN that starts SG2, so this page gives no year for one.

SGE is registered to Elddis, and Elddis and Compass caravans carry it too. A VIN that starts SGE could be any of the 3, and the code does not say which. The name on the caravan and its paperwork will.
The maker codes are the ones published in the Caravan and Motorhome Club's caravan identification guide. The year position is not taken from a guide: we checked the tenth character against SGE caravans whose year was stated separately. Some guides label the thirteenth character as the year. On a VIN that starts SGE that character is part of the serial number or a model code, and reading it gives a wrong year.
Buccaneer year codes
Count to the tenth character of a VIN that starts SGE and find it below. The 30 codes repeat every 30 years, so a code that has come round twice shows both model years.
A caravan built from September can carry the following year's code, so the model year can be one later than the year it was built. A Buccaneer we checked was built in December 2013 and carries the 2014 code.

Before 1992
A Buccaneer from 1987 to 1991 can carry an NCC mark in place of a VIN: two digits for the year, then BU, then a serial number. A mark that starts 89 BU is a 1989 Buccaneer. The check at the top of this page reads these too.
Before 1987 each maker numbered its caravans its own way. This page does not read those numbers.
What this does not tell you
The number gives the maker code and the model year, nothing else. It does not show whether a caravan has been reported stolen, has finance owing or has been written off. A CRiS check covers those, and we don't run it.
